White People and Roe v. Wade

Just finished teaching and a student said they took my class because of how I show up. I shared that the only way for me to manage my pain is to show up authentically and unapologetically. I am a role model for students and clients, hoping they will do the same someday.

So here we go: It is so surprising to me (sarcasm) that today that white people have put their privilege aside to be up in arms and pissed off enough to post about how criminal this plan by Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade is. And it is criminal, I agree.

Meanwhile, after another Black person, Herman Whitfield III was murdered by police during a mental health crisis on April 25th there was no outrage to be seen. You were still posting food, and fun or nothing at all. I can’t imagine what it’s like to walk through the world focused on yourself, your feelings, and being able to tap out and tap in, while white supremacy runs the world, until it directly impacts you, that is.

When in the real world those of us who know will tell you that first, they come for us, and then it’s only a matter of time before they come for you. Racism and classism are the children of white supremacy. This is all a part of the same strategy to oppress, destroy and control.

If you don’t rise up when they murder us, it’s only a matter of time before these same oppressors find a way to keep you and your privilege in line, until you join them. All in the protection of whiteness. And it should be no surprise to any of us that once again, the ones who are impacted the most by this plan are the ones who have the least. Don’t worry, after you post and march this weekend you can tap out again because you always do. What’s that saying, oh yea…If nothing changes it always stays the same.
